Creator God |
Creator God,
you gave us paradise, an earth producing abundance in fields and orchards, lakes and oceans. We have not been good stewards of such precious gifts. We have polluted the seas with impurities; we have desecrated the earth with poisons; we have ruined the air with radiation. Forgive us for our betrayal of mother earth; help us to take better care of the planet which is our inheritance. John Johansen-Berg (excerpt taken from “Harvest for the World” compiled by Geoffrey Duncan for Christian Aid and CAFOD) |
Almighty God, Forgive us for our carelessness which has resulted in catastrophic climate change. Inspire those in government across the world to work hard to bring about change for the better to protect our world, our seas, our animals and the air we breathe. Help us to support any efforts to slow down gloval warming in any way we can. We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen. |
We thank you, God,
for the many gifts you have given us, and continue to give us, especially in the use of plastics. Through your help we gain widespread benefits, and through our ignorance we leave widespread damage in our wake. Only now do we realise how we have thoughtlessly left areas of our world broken and hurt. We ask you God, to help us make up for our careless use of the environment, and to seek in future to use as little plastic as possible, and that which is least harmful to our world. This we ask In Jesus’ name – Amen. |
Father God,
Creator of the world – and of all life, we confess we have been careless with your creation, satisfying our own selfish desires. Help us to use the resources of your world more frugally. To do this may we focus on our needs and the needs of others – instead of our wants. Help us to be less greedy, more careful and mindful of the consequences of our disregard for your creation. We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen. |
Not by Our Own Efforts Eternal God
Not by our own efforts
Do we live for eternity No, we live because Jesus Christ died to save us Not by a long life of work Do we live for eternity No, we live because Jesus Christ died to save us Not by our work for others Do we live for eternity No, we live because Jesus Christ died to save us. Hilary Montgomery |
Eternal God,
You alone created life. Through our mother the Virgin Mary, you sent Jesus Christ our Saviour to rescue us from sin. With his death he saved us. You sent the Holy Spirit as a perpetual support for us. We praise and thank you for all these blessings. Amen Hilary Montgomery |
From the Divine Office Week 4
Lord God, Who entrusted the earth to us to till it and care for it, and made the sun to serve their needs: give us grace this day to work faithfully for your glory and for our neighbours good. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen ( Concluding Prayer from the Morning Prayer) |

Whoever tends the fig tree will eat it’s fruit, and he who guards his master will be honoured.
Reflection: Someone who takes good care of the fig tree will most likely be someone who looks after other things carefully and that person will be honoured. The fig tree is something created by God, one of the many gifts of creation to be tended with care. Prayer: Lord, help us to take care of our little corner of the world at the very least, remembering that being thoughtful by recycling, careful in our use of fuel, not greedy and wasteful will help. May we be the person tending the “fig tree” with care. We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen |

Co-Creators of the Earth
God, you have made us co-creators of the earth.
You have entrusted us with all the resources of the world to care for and share. Help us always to be gentle with our planet. Help us not to pollute the atmosphere or the waterways. Help us not to waste precious resources like energy or food. Help us always to be aware of the effects modern technology may have on the environment. |

For All Nations |
Heavenly Father,
Inspire governments and world leaders to make courageous decisions in order to tackle climate change and its devastating effects. We give thanks for measures and initiatives already in place. May each of us take our responsibility as stewards of God’s creation seriously and implement in our lives ways of living which look after the world. We ask this prayer in the name of Jesus in unity with the Holy Spirit. Amen |
For our World.
We pray for the world we live in: that God may open our eyes to recognise the goodness of all creation and help us to do what we can to restore and care for the wonderful gift that we have been given. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for people who are struggling to grow their crops, who are hungry or thirsty, who cannot meet their needs because of droughts, floods or other extreme weather: that God may strengthen and support them and that they may have reason to look with hope to the future. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Prayer for Everyone
We pray for our local and global community: that through God’s grace we may be good neighbours to each other and to the whole of creation, restoring and caring for all that God has made. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for world leaders: that God may grant them wisdom to make just decisions which respect the earth and all that lives in it, especially those who are poorest and most vulnerable. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
